Tomorrow rapper Lil Wayne will begin serving a 1 year sentence on gun charges. He might not be smiling now, but he's gonna have some great teeth when he goes to jail. Deco caught up with the South Florida dentist who worked on the rapper's notorious, diamond grill.
Lil wayne is expected to surrender to authorities tomorrow in new york. He was supposed to be sentenced last month but a judge delayed jail so wayne could get his teeth fixed.
Turns out Mr. Carter got his legendary grill worked on right here in so-flo by dentist Virgilio Mongalo Of South Dade.
DR. VIRGILIO MONGALO: "This is the oxygen, anytime you work on a patient under sedation you have to have oxygen on him."
Doctor mongalo couldn't talk specifically about what was done only saying the work was necessary and had to be done right away.
DR. VIRGILIO MONGALO: "I called him up and said you can't go to jail with this problem you're gonna get an infection... once in jail you don't have the priv of a free man."
Now lil wayne will check into jail with a scaled back version of his trademark diamond grill.
DR. VIRGILIO MONGALO: "Lets assume you were missing several teeth, and you need typically a dentist would fab a metal with porcelain on top. these teeth instead of metal are gold is white gold on top 150 diamonds, encrusted into the gold."
As any dentist will tell you, brushing and flossing is key especially for Lil Wayne.
DR. VIRGILIO MONGALO: "Some people like lil wayne love sweets, they stock up... in ways you could fill a convenience store, you start eating in that manner you're going to have a lot of cavities."
When lil wayne gets out of jail next year he'll be a free man but he won't be able to avoid the dentist.
DR. VIRGILIO MONGALO: "The da knows that as soon as he gets out of jail he's going to be coming back for continuing treatment."
